Frequently Asked Questions

Mini Alpines are a dairy goat that is a cross between a Nigerian Dwarf (buck )and a standard Alpine,(doe), bred for high-volume milk production (3/4 to 1+ gallon/day) in a smaller, more manageable size. They are hardy, adaptable, and known for a gentle, friendly, and curious temperament. Ideal for small farms, they require less feed and space than full-sized goats.
-
Shelter: All goats require a dry, clean, and draft-free 3 sided shelter at a minimum to protect them from rain, wind, and extreme temperatures. We use a good layer of pine shavings that we completely clean out once a week.
Diet: Goats need access to fresh water and a balanced diet, consisting of high-quality forage/ hay, loose minerals, and a grain ration for does in milk.
Fencing: We use a combination of 4 ft. no climb fencing and cattle panels. High and sturdy fencing is necessary as they can be good jumpers.
Management: Goats are active and agile, requiring enough space to graze and get exercise.
Protection from Predators: Many goat owners employ a livestock guardian dog to protect their goats from predators, like coyotes or even a neighbors dog. If you don’t have an LGD, It’s advisable to lock your goats in at night to protect them.
